Morphological decomposition of extreme gray-level location operators

Gerald Jean Francis Banon

Abstract

Two constructive representations/decompositions of extreme gray-level location operators are presented. By extreme gray-level we mean the maximum or minimum gray-level. The first representation correponds to an intuitive approach and is based on a two step procedure, the first step being the maximum/minimum evaluation and the second one consisting of its location. The construction of the measures which evaluate the maximum/minimum is discussed. The second appoach, for the constructive representation of extreme gray-level location operators, consists of decomposing them in terms of union of appropriate sup-generating operators following the canonical decomposition theorem by Banon & Barrera. We show that their decomposition uses implicitly the well known Threshold Decomposition.
