| Resumo | In this work the orbit determination problem of an Earth artificial satellite is analyzed. This problem is solved using the GPS (Global Positioning System). It's assumed that the target satellite will carry a GPS receiver. To perform this mission, one needs to perform the following steps: i) To simulate the motion of the GPS and the target satellites; ii) To calculate all the distances between the GPS satellites and the target satellite; iii) To determine which GPS satellites are visible; iv) To corrupt those data by adding a random error; v) To develop a software that is able to get a navigation solution on each point of the orbit; vi) To develop a new software to get the target satellite state vector (position and velocity) from the navigation solution. This work was motivated by INPE's plans of performing this kind of mission in a near future. It must be emphasized that the goal of this work is not to provide the system maximum accuracy, but a sufficient accuracy to track and control the satellite at a low cost. |
