Satellite traces suggesting ionization structures with scale sizes of 100-200 km are found to be necessary precursors to the formation of the irregularities that give rise to range type spread F, whereas frequency type spread F was observed under different circumstances. Striking differences are noted in the spread F characteristics and related parameters over Fortaleza as compared with Huancayo (geographic coordinates 75.3 degree W, 12.05 degree S; dip latitude 0.6 degree)and Jicamarca (geographic coordinates 76.8 degree W, 11.95 degree S; dip latitude 0.9 degree), situated within only 38 degree in longitude west of Fortaleza. The postsunset maximum in h'F, in winter, is delayed by about 1 hr with respect to other seasons over Fortaleza, as compared with Huancayo, where it occurs earlier in winter than in other seasons. Similar differences also exist in the prereversal peak near sunset in the vertical drift velocity (Vz)-between Fortaleza and Jicamarca. The differences are attributed possibly to the large , difference in the magnetic field declination and to other factors such as the difference in the magnetic field intensity and the relative separation between geographic and magnetic equators that exist between Fortaleza and the other stations 91: FDB20000124 92: FDB-MLR MFN: 2050 1: SID/SCD 2: 1800 3: INPE-1800-RPE/170 4: CEA 5: S 6: as 7: [07] 10: Kirchhoff, Volker Walter Johann Heinrich 10: Clemesha, Barclay Robert 10: Simonih, Dale M 12: Seasonal variation of ozone inthe mesosphere 14: 1463-1466 30: Journal Geophysical Research 31: 86 32: A3 40: En 41: En 42: 58: DGE 58: DAE 59: IONO 61: 64: Mar. <1981> 68: PRE 76: GEOFISICA ESPACIAL 83: The mesospheric ozone density at a height of 88 km has been deduced from simultaneous ground-based observations of neutral sodium density and sodium nightglow intensity, using a photochemical equilibrium model. From the results we have identified at least two different scale sizes for the disturbances which could be broadly classified as(l)a larger scale component easily identified in the riometer data and has characteristics similar to those of a large scale TID and(2)smaller scale disturbances observable in the scanning photometer data, occurring during the ascending phases of the larger scale waves. A Fourier analysis of the zenith airglow variations clearly reveals a dominant period of about 104 min that seems to correspond to the period of the larger scale waves and no single dominant period is present for the smaller scale waves. Whereas all these have a poleward velocity component, the smaller scale waves show up this feature more markedly. The equatorial source of the smaller scale disturbances and other characteristics have led us to suggest that these disturbances are perhaps the low-latitude manifestations of the upward propagating field aligned plasma bubbles in the equatorial ionosphere 91: FDB-20000124 92: FDB-MLR MFN: 2059 1: SID/SCD 2: 1811 3: INPE-1811-RPQ/ 4: CEA 5: S 6: as 7: [07] 10: Clemesha, Barclay Robert 10: Kirchhoff, Volker Walter Joahann Heinrich 10: Simonich, Dale Martin 10: Batista, Paulo Prado 12: Mesospheric winds from lidar observations of atmospheric sodium 14: 868-870 30: Journal Geophysical Research 31: 86 32: A2 40: En 41: En 42: 58: DAE 59: FISAT 61: 64: Feb. <1981> 68: PRE 76: AERONOMIA 83: Laser radar observations of the atmospheric sodium layer, made by various groups of workers during the past decade, have shown that the layer exhibits considerable time-varying structure. In this paper we describe horizontally spaced measurements of this structure and use the results of these observations to derive horizontal velocities in the height range 82 to 99 km. The measurements were made with a steerable lidar operating at a fixed zenith angle of 20.9§ and pointed at each of three azimuths in turn, the complete sequence taking 5 min. The azimuths were chosen such that the intersections of the lidar beam with the sodium layer formed a triangle with approximately 60 km sides. We present here the analysis of a 10-hour data run taken on the night of July 21, 1979. After low pass filtering to remove rapid uncorrelated fluctuations, a cross correlation analysis was carried out for each of the height intervals in the range 82 to 99 km. The velocities calculated from the derived time shifts were found to vary with height in an oscillatory manner, with amplitude increasing with height. The east-west component showed a vertical wavelength of approximately 10 km, the north-south component a wavelength of 5 km, and the magnitude of the velocity varied between 6 and 146 m s-1 91: 8101 MFN: 2063 1: SID/SCD 2: 1825 3: INPE-1825 4: CEA 5: MP 6: m 7: 000 16: Martin, Inacio Malmonge 16: Aguiar, Odylio Denys de 18: DIRECAO E INTENSIDADE DOS VENTOS ATE 55 KM DE ALTITUDE NA REGIAO EQUATORIAL E SUA APLICACAO EM VOOS DE BALOES. 20: 000 58: DAS 59: ASTRO 61: NRC 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 91: 8108 MFN: 2064 1: SID/SCD 2: 1826 3: INPE-1826 4: CEA 5: MP 6: m 7: 000 16: Kane, Rajaram Purushottam 18: SCALE SIZE OF THE COSMIC RAY MODULATING REGION 20: 000 58: DGE 59: GEOMA 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 91: 8101 MFN: 2071 1: SID/SCD 2: 1844 3: INPE-1844-PRE 4: CEA 5: S 6: as 10: Sahai, Yogeshwar 10: Bittencourt, Jos‚ Augusto 10: Teixeira, Nelson Rodrigues 10: Takahashi, Hisao 12: Plasma irregularities in the tropical F-region detected by OI 7774 A and 6300 A nightglow measurements 14: 3496-3500 30: Journal of Geophysical Research 31: 86 32: A5 40: En 41: En 42: 58: DAE 58: DGE 61: 64: May <1981> 68: PRE 76: AERONOMIA 87: irregularidades 87: regiÆo F 87: luminescˆncia noturna 87: medi‡Æo 88: irregularities 88: F region 88: nightglow 88: measurement 83: Simultaneous measurements of the permitted OI 7774 A and the forbidden OI 6300 A nightglow emissions were carried out at-Cachoeira Paulista (geographic 22.7 degree S, 45.0 degree W), Brazil, during the period of April 1978 to March 1979. The derived wind vectors are in good agreement with radiosonde measurements 91: FDB-20000110 92: FDB-MLR MFN: 2128 1: SID/SCD 2: 1985 3: INPE-1985 4: CEA 5: PM 6: m 16: Sahai, Yogeshwar 16: Teixeira, Nelson Rodrigues 18: ATMOSPHERIC OZONE MEASUREMENT IN BRAZIL - DATA BULLETIN NO. 1 (PERIOD 1974-1976) 20: 000 42: 58: DAE 58: DGE 59: FISAT 62: INPE 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 76: AERONOMIA 91: 8101 MFN: 2129 1: SID/SCD 2: 1991 3: INPE-1991 4: CEA 5: MP 6: m 16: SCHNEIDER,R.C. 18: CRITERIO PARA IMPLANTACAO DE INFRA-ESTRUTURA TELEMETRICA TERRESTRE PARA APLICACAO EM BALOES ESTRATOSFERICOS 58: DAS 59: ASTRO 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 76: ASTROFÖSICA 91: 8101 MFN: 2130 1: SID/SCD 2: 1992 3: INPE-1992 4: CEA 5: MP 6: mM 16: SCHNEIDER,R.C. 18: RADIOENLACE DE VOZ ATRAVES DE BALOES ESTRATOSFERICOS 58: DAS 59: ASTRO 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 76: ASTROFÖSICA 91: 8101 MFN: 2132 1: SID/SCD 2: 1998 3: INPE-1998-TDL/040 4: ETES 5: T 6: m 16: Negreiro de Paiva, Ricardo 18: Determina‡Æo de ¢rbitas de sat‚lites artificiais atrav‚s de um estimador, na presen‡a de acelera‡äes nÆo-modeladas, usando a transforma‡Æo KS. 58: DMC 59: CMC 62: INPE 64: <1981> 66: SÆo Jos‚ dos Campos 68: TDI 76: ENGNEHARIA E TECNOLOGIA ESPACIAL 83: Neste trabalho, desenvolve-se um procedimento de estima para determina‡Æo de ¢rbitas de sat‚lites artificiais terrestres, num espa‡o param‚trico, na presen‡a de acelera‡äes nÆo-modeladas. The results show profound dissimilarities in the seasonal trends in the times and widths of the Vz prereversal peak, which reflect in the spread F characteristics as well, at the two stations. The dissimilarities are shown to be arising mainly from the difference in the magnetic field declination angles that causes differences in the conjugate E region sunset durations and, hence, in the F region polarization electric field development rates at the two stations 91: 8111 MFN: 2152 1: SID/SCD 2: 2056 3: INPE-2056- 4: CEA 5: MC 6: am 7: 000 10: Kane, Rajaram Purushottam 10: Paula, Eurico Rodrigues de 12: COMPARISON OF THE IONOSPHERIC FOF2 CHARACTERISTICS AT CACHOEIRA PAULISTA AND TUCUMAN, IN THE SOUTH AMERICA REGION 20: 000 53: ReuniÆo Anual da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciˆncia (SBPC), 33 54: 8-15 jul. <1981> 56: Salvador 58: DGE 59: GEOMA 61: 64: <1981> 68: PRE 91: 8107 MFN: 2153 91: FDB-19930209 92: FDB-MD 101: D 1: SID/SCD 2: 2059 3: INPE-2059-RA/150 4: MET 5: MP 6: m 7: [07] 16: Meira Filho, Luiz Gylvan 16: Elias, Marlene 16: Oliveira, Jose Roberto de 18: Relatorio de acompanhamento tecnico (final)- Convenio B/28/79/080/00/00 - Recepcao de satelites meteorologicos de terceira geracao 20: 38 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 58: DME 62: INPE 64: maio <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: RA 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA MFN: 2155 1: SID/SCD 2: 2066 3: INPE-2066 4: CEA 5: MP 6: m 16: Fernandes, M.F 18: BOLETIM DE DADOS GEOFISICOS N.8 - JANEIRO-MARCO 1981 58: DAE 59: FISAT 64: <1981> 68: NTC 91: 8105 MFN: 2156 1: SID/SCD 2: 2070 3: INPE-2070-RPI/056 4: MET 5: MP 6: m 7: [07]551.507.362.2 16: Munoz, Luiz Fernando Solis 18: Sincronizador de bits 20: 29 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 58: DME 62: INPE 64: maio <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: RPI 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA 91: FDB-19930216 92: FDB-MD 101: D MFN: 2159 1: SID/SCD 2: 2094 3: INPE-2094-RPE/324 4: MET 5: MC 6: am 7: [07]681.3.019:633.1:551.5(816.1) 10: Silva, Orion de Oliveira 10: Souza, Celso de Renna e 10: Almeida, Fausto Carlos de 12: Inferencia nebulosa aplicada a previsao de safras 18: Anais 20: 5 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 53: Congresso Brasileiro de Agrometeorologia, 2 54: 5-10 jul. <1981> 56: Pelotas 57: BR 58: DSE/DIN 61: 62: INPE 64: <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: PRE 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA 87: PRODUCAO VEGETAL 87: MILHO 87: PREVISAO DE SAFRA 87: PRODUTIVIDADE 87: INFLUENCIA NEVULOSA 82: 91: FDB-19930210 92: FDB-MD 101: D MFN: 2160 1: SID/SCD 2: 2101 3: INPE-2101-PRE 4: CEA 5: S 6: as 10: Kirchhoff, Volker Walter Joahann Heinrich 10: Sahai, Yogeshwar 10: Motta, Adalton Gouveia 12: First ozone profiles measured with ECC sondes at Natl (5.9 degrees S, 35.2 degrees W) 14: 1171-1981 30: Geophysical Research Letters 31: 8 32: 11 40: En 41: En 42: 58: DGE 59: QUIAT 61: 64: <1981> 68: PRE 76: GEOFISICA ESPACIAL 83: The average ozone profile obtained from 43 balloon flights at Natal is compared to data obtained elsewhere, in particular to an average profile obtained between latitudes ñ 30 degrees. These measurements also show that the winter increase in sodium observed at mid-latitudes occurs mainly on the bottomside of the layer. Recent 24-hour observations show that any 24-hour component in the diurnal variation in abundance is less than about 5 of the mean. At least as it stands the recently proposed meteor-ablation model, in which sodium atoms which enter the atmosphere during meteor ablation are lost by ionization and subsequent attachment of the ions to aerosols, is shown to be inconsistent with these experimental data 91: FDB-20000110 92: FDB-MLR MFN: 2186 1: SID/SCD 2: 2182 3: INPE-2182-RPE/393 4: MET 5: MC 6: am 7: [07]621.376.5 10: Rodrigues, Valter 10: Carleial, Aydano B 12: Compressao em imagens de satelites meteorologicos 14: 14 18: Anais 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 53: Reuniao Anual da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciencia, 33 54: 8-15 jul. <1981> 56: Salvador 57: BR 58: NCO 58: ETE 61: 62: INPE 64: <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: PRE 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA 91: FDB-19930210 92: FDB-MD 101: D MFN: 2187 1: SID/SCD 2: 2185 3: INPE-2185-RPE/396 4: MET 5: MC 6: am 7: [07]681.322.OL 10: Viola, Francisco E.C. 10: Fischer, Sergio D 12: O exemplo classico do produtor/consumidor implementado em linguagem Lanac 14: 16 18: Anais 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 53: Reuniao Anual da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciencia, 33 54: 8-15 jul. <1981> 56: Salvador 57: BR 58: NCO 61: 62: INPE 64: <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: PRE 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA 91: FDB-19930210 92: FDB-MD 101: D MFN: 2191 1: SID 2: 2202 3: INPE-2202 4: CEA 5: MC 6: am 10: Kantor, Ivan Jelinek 10: Abdu, Mangalahyil Ali 10: Batista, Inez Staciarini 12: DISTURBIOS IONOSFERICOS, PROPAGANDO-SE PARA LESTE EM BAIXA LATITUDE, DETETADOS POR POLARIMETROS DE VHF 14: 000 53: ReuniÆo Anual da Sociedade Brasileira para o progresso da Ciˆncia (SBPC), 33 54: 8-15 jul. <1981> 56: Salvador 58: DAE 59: IONO 61: 64: <1981> 68: PRE 76: AERONOMIA 91: 8107 MFN: 2192 1: SID/SCD 2: 2206 3: INPE-2206 4: CEA 5: MP 6: m 16: Fernandes, M.F 18: BOLETIM DE DADOS GEOFISICOS N0. 9, ABRIL 1981-JUNHO 1981 58: DGE 59: 113050 64: <1981> 68: NTC 91: 8108 MFN: 2196 1: SID/SCD 2: 2228 3: INPE-2228-PPR/071 4: MET 5: MP 6: m 7: [07] 16: Parada, Nelson de Jesus 16: Almeida, Fausto Carlos de 16: Arai, Nelson 18: Proposta de financiamento do projeto estimativa de radiacao solar atraves de imagens de satelites 20: 29 40: Pt 41: Pt 41: En 42: 58: DSM 59: Aplicacoes Meteorologicas 62: INPE 64: set. <1981> 66: Sao Jose dos Campos 67: BR 68: PPR 90: b 76: METEOROLOGIA 91: FDB-19930209 92: FDB-MD 101: D MFN: 2198 1: SID/SCD 2: 2231 3: INPE-2231-PRE/399 4: MET 5: MP 6: m 7: [07]551.509.324:528.711.7 16: Fortune, Michael Allan 18: The severity of the brasilian freeze of July 1981, as monitored by satellite 20: 24 40: En 41: En 42: 58: DME 59: GEADA 62: INPE 64: Sep. This type of problem has applications in the design of solar collector plates, the mounting plates of electronic banks, in some heat exchangers, and in thermal control of satellites. It is observed that the nondimensional thermal resistance can be expressed as a function of the nondimensional plate thickness and contact width, the Biot number, and the ratio of the total internal heat generation to the total heat flux. As was expected, if the thermal resistance resulting from one-dimensional heat conduction is subtracted from the total thermal resistance, the resulting value will still be dependant on the internal heat generation. Os resultados num‚ricos apresentam excelente concordƒncia com os resultados anal¡ticos 91: 8107 MFN: 4360 1: SID/SCD 2: 2132 3: INPE-2132-RPE/356 4: ETES 5: MP 6: m 16: Galvao, B. D. In order to function with this high input level, the mixer was built with four pairs of Schottky diodes, each pair connected, in series to a star configuration. The coupling of the signals to the diodes is accomplished through a strip-line balanced line hybrid coupler. Strip-line baluns are used to connect the balanced line hybrid to the unbalanced 50 ohms ports. Using conventional glass-encapsulated diodes, the mixer exhibited a dB conversion loss, and the measured 1 dB compression point was +10 dBm 91: 8107 MFN: 4376 1: SID/SCD 2: 2157 3: INPE-2157-RPE/376 4: ETES 5: MP 6: m 16: ADABO,P. 18: Demodulador PM 60 graus em 10 MHZ 58: DMC 59: 39100X 62: INPE 64: <1981> 68: RPQ 83: Este relat¢rio descreve um demodulador para sinais modulados digitalmente em fase (PM), o qual emprega uma t‚cnica diferente das convencionais. The basic idea consists in modelling a Markov stochastic vector sequence with variances in each discretization time that constrain the order of magnitude of the global error vector components to be within estimated limits with 99 83: probability. This is done by properly discretizing the dynamics by the system first order variational equations and by properly perturbing this dynamics with white noise derived from local estimates of truncation and round-off errors. Abstract: Estimation procedures are implemented and tested, aiming application to problems of real time orbit determination of low altitude satellites. Adaptive techniques of Dynamic Model Compensation and noise state evaluation are used in a sequential way, making the real time processing of the satellite observational data feasible. In order to test these procedures, satellite orbits and observations made by topocentric tracking stations are simulated in a digital computer. The performance of the estimation procedures is analyzed in terms of accuracy, convergence and statistical consistency, by comparison of estimated and simulated data MFN: 4461 1: SID/SCD 2: 2320 3: INPE-2320-TDL/080 4: etes 5: T 6: m 16: Silva, Wilson Cust¢dio Canesin da 18: Determina‡Æo de expressäes anal¡ticas simplificadas para c lculo e propaga‡Æo de ¢rbitas mediante uso da teoria de estima‡Æo de parƒmetros 20: 116 42: 50: Instituto de Pesquisas Espaciais 51: Mestre 58: DMC 59: CMC 62: INPE 64: set. The driving for this anomalous circulation is provided by warming due to enhanced moist convection associated with warmer sea surface temperature anomalies over the northern tropical Atlantic, and cooling associated with colder sea surface ternperature anomalies in the southern tropical Atlantic. The combined effects of thermally forced subsidence and reduced evaporation and moisture flux convergence produces severe drought conditions over northeast Brazil. We have examined the monthly mean sea surface temperature anomalies over the tropical Atlantic and rainfall anomalies over two selected stations (Fortaleza, 3 degrees 46'S 38 degrees 31'W and Quixeramobim, 5 degrees 12'S 39 degrees 18'W)for 25 years (1948-72). It is found that the most severe drought events are associated with the simultaneous occurrence of warm sea surface temperature anomalies over north and cold sea surface temperature anomalies over the south tropical Atlantic. Simultaneous occurrences of warm sea surface temperature anomaly at 15 degrees N, 45 W and cold sea surface temperature anomaly at 15 degrees S, 5 degrees W were always associated with negative anomalies of rainfall, and vice versa. A simple primitive equation model is used to calculate the frictionally controlled and thermally driven circulation due to a prescribed heating function in a resting atmosphere. The heating function is designed to simulate a heat source to the north and a heat sink to the south of the equator. This prescribed thermal forcing produces a thermally direct circulation with ascending motion to the north and descending motion to the south. Low-level cyclonic circulation and high-level anticyclonic circulation is generated to the north of the equator and low-level anticylonic circulation and high-level cyclonic circulation is generated to the south of the equator. The analytical solutions agree well with the results of numerical experiments carried out with a multilevel global general circulation model. We also have carried out a series of numerical experiments to test the sensitivity of the GLAS (Goddard Laboratory for Atmospheric Sciences)model to prescribed sea surface temperature anomalies over the tropical Atlantic. It is found that the sea surface temperature anomaly patterns, which resemble the observed ones during drought years, produce an intensified convergence zone, enhanced rainfall and lowlevel cyclonic circulation to the north, and reduced rainfall and anticyclonic: circulation to the south. The reduction of rainfall over continental northeast Brazil is large enough to give further support to the proposed mechanism. Since the sea surface temperature anomalies over the tropical Atlantic persist for several months, the proposed mechanism could provide guidance for predicting droughts over northeast Brazil 91: FDB-19991013 92: FDB-MLR MFN: 9452 1: SID/SCD 2: 8428 3: INPE-8428-PRE/4200 4: CEA 5: S 6: as 7: [07] 10: Prakash, S. 10: Muralikrishna, Polinaya 12: E and F region electric fields over Dip Equator 14: 2095-2098 30: Journal of Geophysical Research 31: 86 32: A4 40: En 41: En 42: 53: Physical Research Laboratory 54: 20-24 Jan. <1976> 56: Ahmedabad 57: IN 58: DAE 61: 64: Apr. <1981> 68: PRE 90: b 76: AERONOMIA 87: regiÆo F 87: eletrojato equatorial 87: regiÆo E 87: condutividade 87: irregularidades 87: campos el‚tricos 88: F region 88: E region 88: equatorial electrojet 88: conductivity 88: irregularities 83: The horizontal east-west drift velocity VE of ionisation irregularities in E region, and the vertical drift velocity VF of electrons in F region over Jicamarca (dip latitude 1 degree N)are used to estimate the average diurnal variation of the east-west components of the electric fields in these two regions. The F region field is estimated from VF by using the relationship derived earlier by Woodman. The E region field is estimated from VE by using a relationship different from the one used earlier by Balsley and Woodman and is derived by using more realistic electrojet and conductivity models. The E region electric field thus obtained is found to be weaker at least by a factor of 3 than that estimated by Balsley and Woodman. A comparative study shows that the east-west electric field in the F region is, most of the time, stronger than that in the E region, and also that the ratio of the E region field to the F region field systematically increases from forenoon to afternoon hours, and from pre-midnight to post-midnight hours 91: FDB-20011107 92: FDB-MLR
